There is more than your car battery. There is your home battery, solar energy and the night that connects them. O.R.N. brings these elements into your charging plan.
The idea: make better use of energy you have already stored. O.R.N. — Ottimizzatore Ricarica Notturna, or overnight charging optimizer — is designed for people with an electric car, solar panels and home battery storage. Its goal is to help you decide how much to charge overnight by considering your mobility needs alongside the energy remaining in your home battery.
The starting point is simple: after solar production stops, your home battery may still hold energy collected during the day. Some is needed by your home and some must remain as a reserve. O.R.N. explores how much can go to the car, considering those needs and the time until solar generation resumes.
A charging target, rather than a guess. The demo lets you enter vehicle and storage details, a minimum reserve, average household consumption, charging power and the expected time solar generation resumes. The proposal is shown as a target battery percentage, a charging window and energy to add. You then set the target in your vehicle app or compatible charging system: this presentation does not imply automatic vehicle control.
Potential savings come from drawing less from the grid. When stored solar energy can charge the car while preserving household needs and your chosen reserve, it can replace electricity you would otherwise buy from the grid. Actual benefits depend on available energy, tariffs, conversion and charging losses, and whether that energy would otherwise power your home. Battery wear also matters in the overall assessment. Savings are therefore neither fixed nor guaranteed. O.R.N. aims to support informed decisions and greater use of your own solar energy.
O.R.N. 2.0 is in development. Recommendations depend on your inputs and actual system conditions: consumption and generation may differ from estimates. Features and compatibility will be assessed during beta testing.
